Transition Planning

Calling a new pastor is an exciting opportunity for any church. Part of the interim process is exploring the congregations' hopes and vision for the future while identifying areas that need improvement before a new pastor arrives. To assist this process, Session established a Transition Team to hold "listening conversations" with the congregation. The information gathered will be used to help the Session and Pastor Nominating Committee focus on the future plans for FPC.

2016-2019 Strategic Plan

This Strategic Plan was approved at the September 13, 2016 Session meeting.


Our mission statement reflects where we are and who God is calling us to be:

First Presbyterian Church is a vibrant, Spirit-filled community of disciples who participate in the love of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ through worship, fellowship and service in mission.

Strategic Goals

The report includes our history, so that we might celebrate where God has taken us in the last 185 years—even as we look forward to the next couple of centuries of mission and ministry in Christ. The report also puts our church in the context of today’s churches and culture and trends so that we might identify where we are in relationship to our sister churches. And the report presents an optimistic perspective of where we are—even as we explore ways that we might improve and grow into God’s future: “Based on the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) process, in which many members of our congregation participated, the Strategic Planning Team feels confident about our church’s present general direction. However a few concerns and reservations have been identified and need to be addressed.” The rest of the report addressed five Strategic Goals which will strengthen God’s witness and ministry at First Presbyterian Church:

  1. Increase Attendance and Participation in the Life of the Church;
  2. Establish Sustainable Stewardship;
  3. Increase Engagement of Young Families;
  4. Optimize our Physical Facilities;
  5. Leadership for the Future.

Action Plan

Action Steps are identified to address these Five Strategic Goals in the next several years.
