Advent and Christmas Worship

Christmas Season Services

Christmas is a busy time. But, it is also a sacred time. At First Presbyterian, we have many traditions to help us remember that Jesus Christ came into the world to offer us hope and peace and joy and love.

Traditions

Living nativity scene

  • Through a Daily Devotion Guide members of our congregation share their heartfelt stories of faith.
  • Our confirmation youth participate in services by reading scripture, leading us in prayer and lighting Advent candles that represent the light of Jesus Christ coming into our world.
  • Our Sacred Music Sunday Dec. 17 is an Advent season highlight led by our choir.
  • Each of our children’s programs (Sunday School (Dec. 24 at 10:45 a.m.), Preschool (Dec. 22 at 11 a.m.), and K Plus (Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.) tell the story of Jesus birth in their annual Christmas pageant.
  • Our congregation also participates in the Downtown Jefferson City Living Windows on Friday, Dec. 1, from 6-9 p.m. with a live nativity (complete with animals) outside. Inside we share seasonal displays, hot cider and fresh baked cookies, music by "Missing Pieces" and booth of Fair Trade items.

Advent Vespers

Each Sunday in Advent (Dec. 3, 10 and 17) at 5 p.m. we hold an Advent Vesper Communion service. It provides a weekly sacred and calm space for each of us to prepare for the Christ child.

Christmas Eve Services

This year, we'll hold Christmas Eve Morning worship services at 9:30 a.m. and Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion services at 5, 7:30 and 11 p.m.

Come and be part of the Advent and Christmas celebration at First Presbyterian!
