Letter from the Moderator
Thanks for visiting the Church & Society Mission Team webpage! The purpose of the Church & Society Mission Team within Missouri Union Presbytery is to identify and report to Presbyterians regarding critical ethical issues confronting Missourians, particularly those issues related to our Christian faith and state government.
The Mission Team has been working now for two years to monitor important social issues in Missouri and our state government’s response to these challenges. The Mission Team has also been in contact with the Presbyteries in St. Louis and Kansas City to determine if we might have a united effort with other Presbyterians in other areas of our state as we track on current issues impacting Missouri citizens. We also look forward to making contact in the near future with Presbyterians in John Calvin Presbytery in the southwestern part of the state.
Over the past year, the Mission Team has continued to track on changes in the state’s low income health care program (formerly Medicaid and now Missouri HealthNet). The Mission Team continues to have serious concern about the changes that have been made over the past three years to the state's health care program for the poor. Another critical issue that the Team is monitoring involves fiscal decisions that are currently being made at the state level that will have drastic implacations for future funding for programs that are critical for many Missourians. Please be sure and click on the "Issues" section in the left column of this webpage to read further about these areas of concern.
It is our hope that many Presbyterians will educate themselves and respond to these important issues that impact the less fortunate in our society. The Church & Society Mission Team encourages questions about the issues we are currently tracking and hopes that our fellow Presbyterians will let their faith lead them to appropriate actions.
Please let us know if you would like to be on our email alert list and if you are interested in joining the work of the C&S Mission Team. Regular updates, meetings schedules, and alerts will be provided via this website, so please check back frequently.
