A Brief Look at FPC
First Presbyterian Church (FPC) Jefferson City was founded in 1834 with services in the early years held in the State Capitol. Throughout the decades, there have been numerous additions and alterations to our downtown church.
Congregational programs include numerous opportunities to meet the needs of an intergenerational congregation that facilitates its active involvement and participation. FPC members join with individuals/groups in the community, nation and world in an ecumenical effort to enhance mission outreach.
FPC supports children and education by sponsoring classes for preschoolers, kindergarten children at-risk, and second graders who require special assistance, as well as sponsoring a Boy Scout Troop. Members have taken a leadership role in Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army and the local interfaith family assistance programs of the Samaritan Center and Agape House.
We have three international mission partnerships, and enjoy annual mission trips to renew friendships and assist our partners in Hungary, Peru and Malawi.
We are proud of our active youth ministry, vibrant music programs, valuable Stephen Ministry and Presbyterian Women’s circles.
FPC is financially stable and debt-free, blessed with a generous congregation that is responsive to annual stewardship campaigns and has an established Endowment Fund.
Our former pastor of 28 years, Reverend Rudy Beard, served us well and took an entire year to prepare us for his retirement last August. We continue to celebrate his service to our congregation but are ready to embrace a new pastor with new ideas and new perspectives.
FPC has a rich and wonderful history. With God's help we are ready to begin writing the next chapter.
