Mission Projects
Mission
is key to who we are at FPC and the One we serve. Active local
mission
endeavors include FOCUS, Kid's
Plus (an
enrichment program for at-risk kindergartners), our food and coat
closets and our work with other groups in the community like
Samaritan Center, Habitat
for Humanity and Agape House.
In addition, FPC members provide meals at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen five to six nights per month; provide lunch for residents of the Kenneth R. Locke Apartments two Saturdays per month, as well as weekly Wednesday afternoon Vesper Services at 3:30 pm.
FOCUS
FOCUS is a year-long second grade classroom
that takes at-risk children out of area schools to participate
in
an enrichment
experience
designed to better prepare the student for success in either
third grade or in the regular second grade. More
about FOCUS.
Food Closet
The Food Closet is used by many in need every
month.
Kid's Plus
Kid's Plus
is an educational outreach program is for at-risk 4 and 5 year
olds who can use some enrichment activities to better prepare
them for school. The program is led by a talented group
of teachers and meets Monday through Thursday afternoons. This
program began in 1991 and has helped many children become better
prepared to succeed in school.
Presbyterian Preschool
The Presbyterian Preschool began in 1982
and has developed a fine reputation in the community because
of the quality teaching staff. Classes for 2-year olds through
age 5 are offered every week for 48 children.
Kids Café
This is an ecumenical summer program providing meals for children from low income homes when they are out of school for the summer. The program, which began in 2004, provides an opportunity for our members to prepare and deliver the meals to designated sites, working with members of other downtown churches.
