Welcome to First Presbyterian Church-Jefferson City!
Welcome to the First Presbyterian Church web site! I am the Director of Christian Education and Children’s Weekday Ministries, but most importantly, I am part of the family here at First Presbyterian. My husband and I joined in 1975, raised our family here, and love to have our grandchildren visit! The people we’ve gotten to know over these years have been supportive of us, our parenting (ups and downs), and our faith development. This is a community of faith, love and grace!
I love children of all ages! I have had the privilege of loving all the children of the church for many years – we are a church family who truly loves and appreciates children – we take our baptismal commitments seriously to support and nurture our youngest in the faith. We start Sunday School when children are 2 years old. We have a Preschool for 2 through 5 year olds, a mission program for at-risk 3 and 4 year olds, Vacation Bible School and camps every summer, and Presbyterian Children’s Fellowship for 4 year olds through 5th graders. Children are important at First Presbyterian!
I love mission too – I believe that Christ calls us to share with our neighbors around the world, as well as those in our community. Our church family has supported the Reformed Church in Hungary as they came back from 50 years of Communist rule and we continue to support their aid to the Roma (gypsy) children in the Ukraine; we have helped build churches, playgrounds, and provided water filtration kits in the Amazon area of Peru; we have provided the money to build wells, churches, child care facilities, teacher housing and provide scholarships to children in Malawi as this, one of the poorest nations in the world, seeks to lower their child mortality rate and fight the AIDS epidemic in their nation. Now, we have begun a relationship with Nepal, in which we provide the money for children to attend school for a year. We have many local missions too. There is a mission spot for everyone!
First Presbyterian is a warm and caring congregation – a congregation that is not perfect, but is always seeking to be better followers of our Lord and Savior! We want you to come visit us – and become part of this family of faith. I know how important this family continues to be for me and we welcome new people into our family!
