The Session
Welcome to the First Presbyterian Church website! My name is Don Shinkle and I am the Clerk of the Session at First Presbyterian Church. Session is the governing body for the Presbyterian Church. The Session of First Presbyterian Church Jefferson City is comprised of 18 Elders, elected by the congregation, and serve three year terms. Term of office for six members expire each year and are replaced by six newly elected Elders.
Together with the ordained pastors, members of Session exercise leadership, government and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of FPC JC as well as the Presbyterian Church at large, including ecumenical relationships.
It is also the duty of Elders, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation. Together with the pastors, Elders encourage the people in the worship and service of God, equip and renews them for their tasks within the church and for their mission in the world, visit and comfort the care of the people, with special attention to the poor, the lonely, and those who are oppressed.
